February has for a while now been the traditional time for the Australian Championships for radio sailing classes and this year is a little different but Team WA will still be heading East!
While the IOM nationals have been scheduled for the middle of the year as part of the break up of the annual carnival, the International Ten Rater & International Marblehead classes will continue to hold their championships concurrently with the Australian Championships for both classes being held at Yarrawonga, VIC over 16-22 February.
The Ten Rater class will see three WA sailors, Glenn Dawson, Simon Ellis & Denton Roberts competing in the event which will be held over three days (16-18 February), before being joined by Sean Wallis & Cliff Davis for the Marblehead championship also held over three days (20-22 February).
Following the 10R & M championships the trio of Dawson, Ellis & Roberts will head west to Adelaide to participate in the International A Class Australian Championship being held at West Lakes over two days (26-27 February).
Of the three classes sailed, the Marblehead class is best supported with 35 entries received to date being the highest level of participation in over 20 years and is reflective of the growth of the class nationally, including the re-introduction of the class in Western Australia which will see the class hold it's first WA State Championship since 1998 (co-incidently won by Glenn Dawson).
Team WA is expected to perform well in all classes with a strong likelihood of an A class championship trophy headed west.
Those driving to Yarrawonga look to be heading of in the coming week, so we wish them a safe trip over.
Good luck boys!
